SOLO Report from Coach Bega
Our SOLO coed team played some great matches and ended up 4th in the PBYWPL. For most of these water polo players it was their first championships. Everyone played in every game and for some they had their first goal in a water polo game. We are growing in our SOLO water polo and having fun every day. Congratulations to the SOLO COED team for competing and keep training with SOLO Water Polo Club.
The SOLO girls were in the upper division Level II in the SOLO-Peninsula Bay Youth Water Polo League. They played against all boys teams and ended up 7th place. They defeated DeAnza and Los Altos WP and only lost they other matches by 1 and 2 goals. Our girls were led by Emma Canny in the goal, Emily Gran and Carrie Beyer who were our top scorers for our SOLO WPC. One of our only 7th graders on the LEVEL II team played really well and was one of our top scorers for the weekend, Teagan Stanbach. Our girls water polo team included: Carol Fornaciari, Ilana Crankshaw, Erica Staben, Anna Luke, Gracie Mellenthin, Kari Newman and Brittany Krappe. They have improved tremendously and have developed into one of the top girls teams in the area. I hope everyone will keep training hard and learning the sport of water polo. We are excited that our club (SOLO WPC) is one of the only clubs in the area to have an all girls team for water polo. We encourage our girls to train throughout the year and compete at the highest level and we hope they have a lot of fun. Congratulations SOLO Girls Water Polo!
Our SOLO Boys in the LEVEL II division were the overall Championsin the LEVEL II at the SOLO-Peninsula Bay Youth Water Polo League Championships!!! This is the second year we have run the Peninsula Bay Youth Water Polo League and placed 3rd in last year's competition. Our boys have won two championships in the past three weeks at major tournaments and competitions. The other major Championships was in San Diego and won the County Cup out of 32 teams. This year in the PBYWPL they defeated Los Altos WP, Burlingame WP, Ohlone water polo and for the championship game they defeated a strong club from Santa Cruz, SoQuel. The championship game was an exciting one with our boys jumping out to a 3-1 lead and taking control of the game at half with a full length goal to goal from Alex Gow (SOLO Goal Keeper/MVP of PBYWPL). Alex Gow was MVP of the PBYWPL and is improving each time he plays. The score at half became 6-3 SOLO and our SOLO boys had a lot of confidence going into the 2nd half. SOLO kept control of the game and won 9-6 over SoQuel. We really respect and know how strong SoQuel was and wanted to beat them really bad. Our boys had a tremendous Championship win and a great league through the spring. Max Wilder was our leading scorer throughout the league and has developed into one of the top defenders from SOLO WPC. All of our boys had a great league championships and we hope everyone will continue to grow and become great a water polo athlete. The rest of the team for the PBYWPL Champions: Emery Welton, Jake Bercow, Tomas Rojas, Gabe Hall, Bret Pinsker, Morgan Olson-Fabbro, Jeff LaPlante, Conor Neumann, Zach Cogan and Michael Hohl. Congratulations SOLO Boys!
Thank You to All the Volunteers!!!
